Social Anxiety Trust Drug Cure Or Curse?
Everyone is excited that this trust drug will cure social anxiety, and although it sounds good, it might be more of a curse.
This trust drug will help cure social anxiety, but at what cost? There’s a statement in that article that says:
They found that people who inhaled the "love hormone" Oxytocin continued to trust strangers with their money - even after they were betrayed.Curing social anxiety or social phobia is one thing, trusting complete strangers without some kind of common sense reasoning is dangerous.
What are your thoughts? Is this social anxiety trust drug a cure or a curse?
I'm now 54, and I've suffered from severe social phobia since I was a child. I improved in my 40s, but only because I don't have to go out to work, and I don't socialise much. I like being around people, having a laugh, but my social phobia stops me from going out. CBT hasn't worked for me..my SP is too severe. I would love to try this drug but I don't know how to get it prescribed. My doctor won't prescribe it and psychiatrists want to use anti-deps or CBT, neither of which have helped.
ReplyDeleteI doubt I'll get over this problem in my lifetime, but perhaps future generations can be helped by it and not have to face isolation as a result of this disabling condition.
I also suffered from severe social anxiety. I couldn't walk out to my mailbox or sit outside it was so severe. I do know how crippling this disease can be, that's why I've shared my experiences. This drug just scares me. It seems it "helps too much" allowing you to trust complete strangers which can be dangerous. It's not easy, and it doesn't work overnight, but changing your negative thoughts that I talk about is a huge step to overcoming your social anxiety. Good Luck!
